    Clearly the guys who proposed this bill do not think that it will have negative impact on the economy. To the contrary, these guys seem to think that it will free up jobs for Americans, currently occupied by the undeserving immigrants.

    The intensity of these amendments are increasing. Earlier it was on Tarp companies. Now this amendment is for all companies that have laid off workers. I interpret the language to include "work authorization" which means EAD. Even if it doesn't include EAD, say this amendment will pass, then what is next? In next phase they will come after EAD, won't they?

    1) Per country quotas in EB immigration cause infighting


    I understand your frustration, but the rules are the same for everybody, and if India sends more immigrants to the US then any other country, that\\\'s not the US Government\'s fault.

    If there were not per country limits, Indians would consume all those EB visas visas leaving no chance to the applicants from other countries to immigrate to the US legally.

    By law, you are not suppose to make copies of an official US document.



    I am not sure what are you talking about here. Is it illegal to make a copy of the approval notice or driver license? Police may not accept it, but it is not illegal. I received that advice from an attorney when I asked whether I have to carry a GC with me all the time.

    Guys, please contribute to IV. I just did today, and believe me, you will feel better for doing so...

    This is not just for you and me, but also for those who will come after us. Also, this is not a battle just to sue USCIS/DOS, but a war we need to fight on multiple fronts:
    1) First and foremost, we the immigrant community need to join hands and fight as one cohesive group.
    2) Sue the government agencies for damages/violation of law/precedents due to the revised visa bulletin
    3) Get this matter the attention it deserves in the media
    4) Try and get congress to intervene in this matter, and also introduce and pass legislation that will fix the broken employment based immigration system
    5) Request corporate sponsorship. Since employers spent money on this fiasco as well, they will have a vested interest in pursuing this as well.

    The main thing, however, is funds. IV needs funds to fight for us. Each of us has already spent 100's (many even 1000's) of $ trying to get ready to file our I-485's. So even if 10,000 members contribute just $100 each, it will be $1 mil. I am sure each of us can at least spare that much. It is a small price to pay for liberation from this GC mess for all of us....

    With ~15,000 members already, and hopefully some serious $$$$$$ raised, IV will be a force to be reckoned with. No one will be able to treat us with such disdain ever again...

    Here's a classic example ..

    If you look at the other threads on this forum you have people against the Durban bill coz it affects F-1 students . There is another section which is against Grassley coz it'll affect Consultants trying to get H1-B. I do understand Grassley's bill can have many implications and need to be opposed, but the focus still has to be towards alleviating the Employment based GC issues.

    I don't think CNN is to be faulted that much coz IV itself has lost its focus towards Employment Based Green Cards. period. thats what is started out to be and needs to come back on that track instead of trying to act as a platform for all Legal Immigration issues.

    Simply put IV is " EB-1/2/3- related org" ok..ok.. add in those millionaires who put in a million dollars for GC too.
    The point to be made is simple. Over last few months IV members, as an organization, with all it's diverse members and even more diverse immigration problems, in general have moved towards having an opinion and pushing an agenda in a direction which may affect H1-B, F1 visas and not directly EB Green cards.

    It would be more prudent if the message sent across is simple-- rather than use the term generic term of legal immigrants - it should focus towards EB-Green cards, coz very few (other than the stuck )understand that H1-B is non-immigrant visa and try to club the whole GC + H1B issue together.

    From CNN's point of view (and the whole world) the Legal immigrants are GC, H1, F1, B1, L1, etc .. the onus is on IV to clear that IV stands for EB based GCs. period. Use the term "Immigrant" wisely and sparsely.

    I agree with you totally. But the sad part is, Try going the normal straight way & nobody entertains you when the companies hear the word "H4". All the work experience gathered over the years suddenly seems like crap in front of the visa status.
    Its frustrating.

    Yes. Many of the American companies, the fortune 500 companies would go without a qualified worker for months and months but would not hire H1B because they dont want to deal with keeping track of stuff and all the legal requirements and paperwork and dealing with USCIS and immigration lawyers.

    But you have to start somewhere and gain experience and hope that you will have a project somewhere, where you prove to the client (potential employer) that you are a valuable resource, and then they would sponsor you for H1 and then you can quit your desi employer. That is the standard M.O. for most people who are looking for a start. However, in most cases, since desi employers are also the GC sponsors of the primary bread-winner of the family, that opportunity of working for a better employer is passed up by many employees.
