Al Ain city's oasis

The Al Ain Municipality has planted more than one million flowers on the streets, roundabouts and public parks in the city as part of its downtown landscaping and beautification project to reflect the city's oasis image.

Engineer Mona Al Ka'abi, Director of the Public Parks and Horticulture Department at the municipality said, exactly 1,864,423 flowers were planted which consisted of more than 60 species of seasonal flowers. They have been planted in the city's various streets and public parks throughout the year.

"Different kinds and colours of perfumed smelly flowers have been planted in the streets and parks as part of the landscaping beautification project of Al Ain which is aimed at projecting the bright flowery image of the city," Eng. Mona said.

She added that cultivation of flowers is subject to regular agricultural maintenance, as flowers are of the most important plants that play an important role in the field of landscaping, that are used in Al Ain on a large scale.

Eng. Mona said the city's beautiful image depends on the success of planting flowers which go through various stages, starting from preparation of soil and then removing the flowers from the previous season and cleaning the pond of weeds and leaving them for a week by mixing compost and irrigation water to create the soil to receive the flowers of the new season as well to disinfect and provide them with chemical fertilizer compound.
 
She added that irrigation of flowers is carried out in accordance with the needs of type of flowers.
