Mayurasana

Mayurasana

Mayurasana, also known as the peacock pose, is an advanced yogic posture. Gently coaxing the body to perform this asana over a period of time is better than trying to achieve quick results through force. Mayurasana strengthens the body and helps in purifying the body internally and externally. In particular, it burns all the toxins that have accumulated in the body and helps balance all the internal systems.
Mayurasana
  • Kneel on the floor.
  • Place feet together and keep knees apart.
  • Lean forward and place palms between knees on the floor, with fingers pointing towards feet. Bring elbows and forearms together.
  • Lean further and rest abdomen on elbows, and chest on upper arms.
  • While keeping legs together, stretch them backwards and straighten.
  • Tighten the muscles in the body and slowly raise trunk and legs off the floor until they are parallel to the ground. Hold head upward.
  • In the final position, the weight of the body should be balanced on abdomen and not on chest.
Benefits
  • It stimulates the metabolic processes in the body.
  • It helps eliminate the toxins present in the bloodstream, thus helping in the alleviation of skin conditions.
  • Performing this asana massages all the internal organs in the body and increases their activity, including the liver and kidneys.
